Elyse Carter Vosen is a member of Temple Israel and is on the faculty of the College of Saint Scholastica.  Her academic background is as an ethnomusicologist, earning her PhD in that subject at the University of Pennsylvania.  From Fall 2017 through Spring 2018, Elyse traveled to Boston, Philadelphia, the Berkshires of Connecticut and the desert of Southern California, learning about the role of song and prayer as they inspire Jewish social justice work and play a unique role in the growing environmental movement in rural and urban Jewish communities.  Elyse will share some sounds and glimpses of the values and experiences of earth-based Judaism that are being revitalized through music.  She will talk about how song and prayer are currently fueling social justice and building intentional, intergenerational Jewish communities.
