Israeli folk dancing
Todah rabah to Brigid Ripley and Judy Gordon!
On one snowy Saturday in January, they taught us the steps to Nigun Atik (Ancient Melody), a circle dance in which dancers extend one palm up and one down in prayer to heaven and earth; Mayim Mayim (Water, Water), a circle dance that celebrates finding water in the desert; and The Hora, a serpentine dance that evolves with whoever is leading it.
We put our new skills immediately into practice, dancing Mayim Mayim with the congregation at the end of Saturday morning services then used them again during the Tu B'Shevat seder.
